Lisa Ann Walter is thinking back on how she felt about her figure when she first started her career.
In a post via X on Tuesday, August 6, the 61-year-old star of Abbott Elementary described going through the mental pain that comes with believing she didn’t fit a specific type in Hollywood.
Years later, I discovered that, despite all of my needless self-loathing, I was referred to in the industry as “The Body.” Walter wrote a sequence of three black-and-white pictures as the caption for them.
She was wearing a fitting black dress with a high slit that accentuated her exquisite curves and toned legs.
Supporters of the actress were fast to post encouraging comments on social media, with one person writing, “How in the world did you not know?!?” What a fantastic figure!
One more person said, “Don’t you just want to fight EVERYONE who made us feel bad and go back in time?” Walter answered with a “Yes.”
Walter, who wrote the body image-focused book The Best Thing About My Ass Is That It’s Behind Me in 2011, has previously expressed her dissatisfaction with being made to feel as like she doesn’t meet the standard of what an actor should look like in the profession.
The Parent Trap actress praised the social media user and responded in a follow-up tweet after someone dubbed Walter a “baddie” and tweeted a collection of both older and newer photographs via X in 2022.
“Wow, I’m really impressed,” she wrote. Why was Hollywood making me feel unattractive and overweight? #SizeZeroIsStupid, haha.
As of right now, Walter seems to be in good spirits about her figure and is concentrating on her happy moments, which include throwing dinner parties for her friends and family, learning to dance, and attending bar trivia events.
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly earlier this week, Walter discussed her favorite foods to prepare, just like Melissa Schemmenti, her character from Abbott Elementary. Walter told Us that because all she had known growing up was “pizza and hotdogs,” she started preparing meals for her family at the age of 13.
“I threw two large dinners for the entire cast, and everyone came over. I believe [director] Randall Einhorn attended the second one,” she recounted. “I prepared a meal known as Macaroni Pesarese.”
Randall loved it so much—I won’t even try to describe it—that I gave him the recipe. I have to prepare the pasta meal you made, so please give me the recipe straight away.’ He lost it and called me from his residence. I then told him over the phone. I hope he didn’t drop that one.
Walter, a professional dancer, also made light of the fact that she was able to resume dancing in March thanks to her reliable income from her work at Abbott Elementary.
“I’ve taught ballroom at Arthur Murray, competed in hustle competitions, and learned from the best Blackpool champions for Shall We Dance?, but I never learned the Argentine tango, so look at the effect on my booty!” she said.
