After more than 20 years on the popular ABC daytime soap series General Hospital, Kelly Monaco is about to leave the show, an exclusive insider tells Us Weekly.
This autumn, Monaco, 48, will say goodbye to Port Charles through a plot point, a source tells Us. The news of her departure was first reported by Soap Opera Network.
Since 2003, Monaco has portrayed Sam McCall on General Hospital. She had a previous role on the soap opera Port Charles as Livvie Locke. She received nominations for the show in 2003 and General Hospital in 2006 for Daytime Emmy Awards.
Nineteen years ago, Monaco participated in the inaugural season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars and went on to win the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. She competed in the 2012 All Stars version of the show.
That time, she and her professional dancing partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, came in third. (After that, Chmerkovskiy appeared as a boxer on General Hospital.)
Monaco made a comeback to Dancing With the Stars in 2017 where she danced the rumba alongside dance expert Cheryl Burke and Terrell Owens.
Actress Lindsay Hartley stood in for Monaco in a General Hospital episode earlier this year. Prior to this, Hartley had filled in for the seasoned actor in a few episodes in 2020 and 2022.
Monaco made an appearance in the January 60th anniversary primetime special of the program. For the event, she and the 38-year-old Chmerkovskiy reconnected.
She wrote on Instagram, “I put my dancing shoes back on for the @GeneralHospital primetime special (featuring a special appearance by @valentin)” in the caption of a photo of the two of them. “Tomorrow, January 4, at 10 p.m., ABC will broadcast “General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling.” Don’t pass it up!
