Ivory Coast has recently authorized 11 new mining exploration permits aimed at both domestic and international enterprises. The majority of these permits, eight in total, focus on gold exploration, engaging companies involved in established mining projects. The remaining permits target other valuable minerals such as cobalt, copper, nickel, manganese, and chrome.
Production Growth and Economic Impact
Gold output in the country has shown significant growth, rising from a modest 10 tonnes in 2012 to 58 tonnes in 2024. Projections indicate this increase will continue, with estimates of 62 tonnes by the end of 2025. As mining production expands, its contribution to the national economy has grown from 1.5% of GDP to 4% over the past decade.
Investment and Regional Positioning
Efforts to attract new investment reflect Ivory Coast’s strategy to diversify beyond its traditional reliance on cocoa. The nation distinguishes itself as a stable and welcoming environment for mining investment compared to neighboring countries facing regulatory challenges. This has positioned Ivory Coast as an increasingly attractive destination for mineral exploration and development in West Africa.
