Apple has emphatically reasserted its dominance in the world’s largest smartphone arena, capturing a massive 25% share of the Chinese market in October. Fueled by an insatiable demand for the newly released iPhone 17 series, the American tech giant saw its sales skyrocket by 37% compared to the same period last year.

This remarkable performance marks a significant return to form for the company, achieving a level of market penetration it hasn’t seen since 2022, despite facing a much fiercer and more crowded field of domestic competitors today.

The resurgence comes as a welcome signal for investors, proving that the brand’s allure remains potent in Asia. Data released on Tuesday by research firm Counterpoint highlights that the iPhone accounted for one out of every four smartphones sold in the country last month. This surge wasn’t isolated; it helped lift the entire Chinese smartphone sector, which saw an overall sell-through growth of 8% year-over-year.

While the premium “Pro” models often steal the spotlight, the data indicates that the base variant of the iPhone 17 led the charge, with all three new models posting double-digit growth. According to analysts, the new lineup accounted for over 80% of Apple’s total unit sales for the month. This mix is expected to drive revenue significantly higher, as the average selling price continues to climb. Consequently, experts are now forecasting a record-breaking December quarter for Apple, suggesting the momentum shows no signs of slowing down as the holiday season approaches.

Rising Rivals and Market Dynamics

However, the competitive landscape in China remains dynamic. Domestic brands are not sitting idly by. Xiaomi has climbed to the number two spot, a position it hasn’t held in over a decade, thanks to the early and successful launch of its own 17 series. Similarly, Oppo saw a robust 19% increase in sales, driven by its Find X9 and Reno 14 lines.

Looking ahead, the market is bracing for the arrival of the Huawei Mate 80 series, set to launch on November 25. While this introduces a new variable into the equation, analysts remain bullish on Apple’s trajectory. The current data suggests that despite the looming challenge from Huawei, consumer appetite for the iPhone remains resilient, with little indication of a drop-off in the near future.
