Côte d’Ivoire’s gambling regulatory body has executed one of its largest enforcement actions against unauthorized gaming operations by destroying more than 110 illegal slot machines in Abidjan. The Gambling Regulatory Authority worked alongside financial crime units and asset recovery agencies to eliminate the unlicensed equipment through public incineration.

The operation targeted not only the slot machines but also dozens of boxes and bags containing related electronic components, with the destruction taking place before government officials and community leaders. This enforcement action represents part of a wider campaign to eliminate unauthorized gambling activities throughout the country, building on previous operations conducted in other regions.

Ongoing Educational Initiatives Continue

The regulatory authority maintains its commitment to safeguarding legitimate gambling operations through comprehensive educational programs. These initiatives target both industry participants and the general public to promote understanding of legal requirements.

Director General Kouakou Okou emphasized the importance of sustained outreach efforts. The campaigns focus on compliance obligations under current legislation governing slot machine operations.

The authority plans to host yearly gatherings bringing together gaming operators and legal professionals. These meetings facilitate dialogue between stakeholders and regulatory officials.

Key Campaign Elements:

  • Public education programs
  • Industry stakeholder workshops
  • Compliance training sessions
  • Regulatory guidance materials

The collaborative approach aims to develop practical solutions for the gambling sector. Regular engagement between operators and judicial representatives strengthens the regulatory framework.
