Not much is known about Cobra Kai season 6, but we anticipate significant news very soon. Ralph Macchio, one of the stars, has discussed future intentions for the show, and the creators have also given us some indications. Even though Netflix hasn’t officially renewed the Karate Kid sequel series, we have a fair notion of where the show is headed if it does get renewed.
Here you can find all the information you need about Cobra Kai season 6. Our guide includes everything that has been said about the new season, from insider statements to Sekai Takai rumours.
About “Cobra Kai” Series
Cobra Kai is an American comedy-drama television series that follows on from Robert Mark Kamen’s The Karate Kid movie. [2] Sony Pictures Television airs the series that Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg created. For its first two seasons, the show was available on YouTube Red and YouTube Premium. Season three marked the show’s transition to Netflix.
On May 2, 2018, the first season premiered on YouTube Red, and on April 24, 2019, the second season debuted. YouTube halted production of scripted original programming once the third season was finished, leaving the show without a home. When Netflix bought the rights to the show in June of 2020, they also took charge of its production and distribution.
On January 1, 2021, the third season premiered. Netflix ordered a fourth season, which premiered on December 31, 2021, and a fifth, which premiered on September 9, 2022.

Has Cobra Kai Been Renewed for Season 6?
As on the most recent update (12/06/2022), Netflix has decided not to renew the show.
As for the future, we see a renewal of Possible Extension of Contract Term
Four months after the debut of the fifth season on Netflix, the streaming service has not yet renewed Cobra Kai for a sixth season.
We are speculating that there are other causes for the renewal lag.
The protracted wait is especially painful because Netflix has renewed Cobra Kai in advance of fresh seasons dropping in every season before to this one.
We believe that the difference this time around is because the showrunners are also responsible for another project (at Netflix) called Obliterated. Filming for the series completed up in November 2022, so once post-production and editing are complete, the cast and crew can return to Cobra Kai.
On the eve of the New Year, Hurwitz updated us, saying that we would “know more soon.”
We anticipate Netflix to renew the show for a second season, with the proviso that it might be the show’s last. That’s because there’s evidence to suggest the show’s popularity has levelled off.
Despite this, the show’s makers have repeatedly stated that they intended for it to air for at least six seasons.
Hayden Schlossberg recently expressed his excitement about the prospect of a sixth season in an interview with Deadline.
“We have an end in mind. How many seasons it takes to get there, we don’t know. We’re enjoying making it so much. If it gets tiring to us, we’ll stop before that; we have a few more seasons already planned out.”
One of the showrunners, Jon Hurwitz, tweeted that they want to film for at least six seasons:
We’d like to do at least 6 seasons of Cobra Kai. #CobraKai https://t.co/eHCC4ZLTlB

Cobra Kai Season 6: is When Could It Be Released?
Co-creator Hayden Schlossberg assured us there will be an official announcement about a sixth season of Cobra Kai at the appropriate moment, but as of yet, we have heard nothing to indicate that this will happen. What he actually stated was: “We have tonnes of ideas, but there isn’t an official reaction to [season 6 speculation] at this time. In any case, we are not at the point where formalities should be made.”
However, Ralph Macchio has added fuel to the fire. He stated, “In an interview with Us Magazine” (link opens in new tab), “No formal commitment has been made to it yet. That must be said, as it is the truth. But we’re optimistic that we’ll be able to keep making episodes of the programme and allowing it to change and land at the right time.” He elaborated on this in a later interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast(opens in new tab), when he predicted that something would occur “very soon.”
Thus, it appears to be a near certainty. The December 2021 premiere of Season 4 and the September 2022 premiere of Season 5 are both impressive, but they are highly unlikely to be replicated. The two seasons were shot consecutively, and as Jon Hurwitz put it, “nothing” has been shot thus far. Despite rumours to the contrary, no scenes for Season 6 have been shot yet, according to an interview Ralph Macchio gave to ComicBook.com(opens in new tab).
You may anticipate Netflix to make a final call soon.
Previous filming beginning times can give us a rough release date frame. There was a delay of around a year and a half between the start of production and the premiere of Seasons 4 and 5. If it happens again, production on Season 6 would start one year after Season 5 wrapped. A date around 2024 is certainly plausible.
Theories and a Possible Plot for Cobra Kai’s Sixth Season
Cobra Kai season 5 ended with Cobra Kai ostensibly being disbanded, Terry Silver being jailed for his various misdeeds, and Kreese escaping from prison. Miguel and Robby also buried the hatchet and Johnny is gradually adjusting into his newfound role as a family man.
It seems like things have settled down for the time being. However, the Sekai Takai competition is still to come. The “Super Bowl of karate” is something the producers have in mind when discussing a new season.
We don’t know all that’s going to happen, but Schlossberg has claimed it will be the biggest tournament in the series so far. “That’s something we have to wait and see what happens with. Let’s just say we have a lot of plans for where these characters are heading.”
There are still two big villains on the programme, Kreese and sensei Kim Da-Eun, who both have a lot invested in Cobra Kai, and they may be leading the fight for a world karate tournament.
They might be able to take a fresh team to Sekai Takai if they try. It’s an option, to be sure, but you shouldn’t count on Kenny or Tory joining them. Having abandoned Cobra Kai, new characters (and potential challengers) must now arise to Miyagi-top do’s students.
Johnny, meantime, is adjusting to life as a parent for the second time. A small time leap (not like in House of the Dragon) may advance that plot while also fueling one of our favourite fan theories: that Terry Silver is dying. Even if the sensei is leaving this mortal karate coil, Silver undoubtedly has one last move up his sleeve to help the series go out on a high note. Keeping an eye on this space is a must.
