Early Life
On August 24, 1957, Stephen Fry entered the world at the Hampstead Hospital in London. Cawston Primary School was Fry’s first educational experience; he was expelled from Uppingham School when he was 15 and then from Paston School as well.
Fry spent three months in jail as a 17-year-old for stealing credit cards from a family friend. Once Fry was released from prison, he enrolled in City College, Norwich, eventually receiving a scholarship to Queens College.

In 1982, Stephen’s television career began with “The Cellar Tapes,” a Cambridge Footlights Revue written by Fry, Laurie, Tony Slattery, and Emma Thompson. Granada TV gave Fry, Laurie, and Thompson a show, and later that year “There’s Nothing to Worry About!” debuted. Fry appeared on “Happy Families” and “Alas, Smith & Jones” in 1985, while Stephen and Hugh were featured on “The Young Ones” in 1984.
