Deed — Paul Mescal
Paul Mescal, known for his role as Joey in Normal People, plays Will, a teenage pool worker on a Greek island who captures the heart of an elderly woman named Leda in The Lost Daughter.
Before he became known as Connell on Hulu’s Normal People, director Maggie Gyllenhaal said that she had hired Mescal in the part of Will.
This is what she remarked: “I was getting cassettes sent to me for Will before the release of Normal People. Plus, as an aspiring actress myself, I watched every single one of those tapes. The tape Paul sent made me go “Whoa.” The existence of Normal People was news to me.
Not that he had done anything to warrant punishment. Even though I was surprised by how young he was, I cast him anyhow since he was such a great performer. The purpose of my meeting with him was merely to introduce myself. That’s my man, I thought.”
The Eminent Professor Hardy, Played by Peter Sarsgaard
Professor Hardy, a scholar of Italian literature played by Peter Sarsgaard, wins the heart of a younger version of Leda.
In an interview with Netflix, Sarsgaard, who is married to director Maggie Gyllenhaal, discussed working with his spouse.
He thought back and said, “Maggie can do anything. She’s being lauded as a screenwriter for this. She could be lauded as a director for this as well. I would actually say that I was most amazed by the prosecutorial element.
