The New Orleans Police Department responded to a call about a shooting in the 2900 block of Elysian Fields Avenue at 1:35 a.m. on October 29, 2018. The cook working at the Waffle House at the time of the incident claimed he was the victim who rushed by the restaurant’s window before collapsing. The 34-year-old rapper was discovered by police with gunshot wounds, and a vehicle had been stolen from the crime site.

As reported by Nola, three individuals were later arrested; Donald Reaux, 38, Donny Maxwell, 18, and Lovance Wix,16, a juvenile, were charged with second-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to obstruct justice. According to a 2019 article by Complex, Young Greatness was in New Orleans at the time, attending a funeral.

Using security footage, Reaux, Wix, and Maxwell were identified and apprehended during an attack in a parking lot. The New Orleans Police Department termed the crime as “a bungled heist” because it was unknown whether or not the culprits knew Young Greatness prior to their attack.
