In the hours before Sunday night’s game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles, Tom Brady was seen leaving his hotel without his wedding band.
The veteran quarterback, now 45 years old, sported a white T-shirt under a light blue button-down, dark blue slacks, and white sneakers. In his ring-free left hand, he had a camouflage duffel bag.
Because of the persistent divorce rumors between him and his wife Gisele Bündchen, he decided to leave that precious jewelry at home.
Brady’s reluctance to give up football has been cited as a major factor in his rumored breakup with Bündchen.
After the Buccaneers’ loss this week to the Pittsburgh Steelers, fans made jokes about the NFL star’s decision to continue playing football and the possible connection between his decision and the state of his marriage.
A video of a frustrated Tom Brady having words with the offense line has gone viral. Brady can be heard clearly ranting in the direction of his teammates.
There were jokes like, “Tom Brady really got a divorce just to lose to the Steelers,” and comments like, “Tom Brady doesn’t gaf about nothing but football, not his wife, not his kids, not his teammates.”
In addition, he was seen in New York City on Friday night by himself, where he attended Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s surprise wedding to Dana Blumberg.
Separately living for some time, Page Six exclusively reported this month that both Brady, 41, and Bündchen, 42, have retained divorce attorneys.
In September, it was reported for the first time by reliable sources that the pair had an “epic” argument about Brady coming out of retirement.
His decision to come out of retirement has caused tension in the marriage. Someone close to the couple said in September, “Gisele has always been the one with the kids,” and “They had agreed he would retire to focus on the family, then he changed his mind.”
Recently, a source told People that the sportsman and the supermodel’s relationship is hopeless.
“[Gisele] is done with their marriage,” an anonymous insider earlier told the publication. It’s still tough for her, but she knows she has to move on after being sad about it for so long. As far as she’s concerned, her marriage is beyond saving.
Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, 9, are Brady and Bündchen’s, children. The former Patriot also shares custody of Jack, his 15-year-old son, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.
Recently, Bündchen confessed that she and her children would like to see more of Brady on television.
As Bündchen stated to Elle in September, “my children and I would like [Tom] to be more present,” adding that they had “certainly had those conversations with him over and over again.”
Brady married Bündchen in 2009, citing his commitment to his family and his career in football as his top two goals.
