Bruno Mars Withdraws Silk Sonic’s Grammy Nomination!

Bruno Mars told Rolling Stone that he and Anderson. Paak, who make up the R&B combo Silk Sonic, are pulling their album “An Evening With Silk Sonic” from Grammy consideration in 2023.

We put our hearts and souls into this record, but we’ve decided to sexually, modestly, and gracefully withdraw our album submission for this year,” Mars explained. With any luck, we’ll be able to join in the festivities and toast to a fantastic year in music with everyone else. We appreciate your support in helping Silk Sonic grow.

In April of 2021, the album’s lead song, “Leave the Door Open,” was released. It went on to win four Grammys in the 2022 ceremony, including record and single of the year. Since its publication in November of 2018, the album is not only eligible for 2023 accolades but is also widely anticipated to be a strong contender for album of the year.

Martian logic, however, suggests that asking for more would be ridiculous. The instant the world responded to “Leave The Door Open,” Andy and I, and everyone involved in this effort, had won. That was the cherry on top,” he says. In the words of the band, “We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platform — not once, but twice — for awarding us at last year’s ceremony.”

CEO of the Recording Academy Harvey Mason Jr. released a statement shortly after Mars’ revelation, praising Silk Sonic as “such a delightful highlight of our last two of performances” and praising them for “deservingly having an amazing night” at the 64th Grammys earlier this year. We respect their decision not to enter this year but hope to celebrate another fantastic year of music with you.

Nominations for the Grammy Awards are not given out automatically. If an artist or their record company does not wish to have their recordings submitted, this is considered a withdrawal.

In 2018, Mars’ “24K Magic” album and related singles won all six categories in which it was nominated, including the top three awards: album, song, and record of the year, beating out entries from the two biggest hip-hop artists in the world, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar.

Mars, a longtime Grammy favorite, may be responding to criticism the Recording Academy received in this way. Jay received an astounding eight nominations that year, but he took home zero hardware. Meanwhile, Lamar dominated the hip-hop and video categories to the tune of five wins. After Jay was snubbed, there was a massive protest against the Grammys, and later that year, Lamar’s “DAMN.” album won the Pulitzer Prize.

Because both Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé, not to mention Adele, are certain to be nominated for awards in 2023, some have concluded that Mars and Silk Sonic’s decision is a shrewd business move.

At this year’s Grammy Awards, Mars and. Paak played “777” and “Hot Music” from the album together. Afterward, they held a private performance at which they covered songs by Eve (“Let Me Blow Ya Mind”), the Jackson 5 (“I Want You Back”), and Nelly (“Hot In Herre”), among others.

Despite the high likelihood of nominations for their previous work, artists like Drake and the Weeknd opted not to submit such recordings because of their dissatisfaction with their nomination or award histories. The Weeknd did so to protest the Grammy nominating committees’ shocking snub of his blockbuster 2020 album,

“After Hours,” and the single “Blinding Lights,” which is one of the most popular songs of the past decade. Drake gave an oblique reason during a 2019 Grammy acceptance speech, saying,

“We play an opinion-based sport, not a fact-based sport.” The Grammys announced just weeks after the show that the secret, insider committees that had previously decided the candidates in most categories would be disbanded.

Both Drake and The Weeknd skipped the 2022 Grammys without submitting any music.
On Tuesday, November 15, the Grammy nominees will be revealed. The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles is the site of the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on February 5, 2023.
