The infamous “Bling Ring” burglaries of 2008 and 2009 are revisited in Netflix’s newest docuseries, which looks at the events leading up to them.
The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist is the first in a three-part docuseries, and in it, ringleader Nick Prugo explains how he and colleague mastermind Rachel Lee got their start in criminal operations.
Prugo describes how the popular girl at school, Lee, helped him come out of his shell and stop feeling like an outsider after he relocated to Calabasas, California and his mother transported him to school in a Honda rather than a Mercedes or Range Rover.

Prugo claimed that he and Lee committed their first automobile break-in on their way home from a party.
Prugo says, “Rachel walked up to a car and, perhaps in jest, tugged on this door handle, and the car opened.” “She seemed completely unconcerned and unruffled by anything. I was utterly petrified. I really felt we were going to run into some sort of difficulty there. It was unquestionably terrifying. Thus, we found ourselves with a plethora of plastic. The following day, we did some shopping.”
Prugo claims he had never stolen before meeting Lee, but that he was instantly drawn into his lifestyle.

It gave me that confidence, and I didn’t want to lose it,” Prugo explains.
He alleges that whenever the two of them left a party, he would always take the wheel while Lee hung out the window, trying to open the car door with his bare hands. If so, she would go around the vehicle looking for valuables.
Prugo claims that burglars routinely found unlocked doors in affluent neighborhoods and running ignitions in high-priced vehicles.
Prugo also disclosed that he and Lee committed their first home invasion together at the residence of an old mutual friend of theirs named Eden Shizzle. It all started when Shizzle announced on MySpace that he was taking a family vacation, giving Prugo the perfect opportunity to pick on him.
Prugo says he and Lee took about $8,000 from Shizzle’s parents’ safe, but when Shizzle appears on screen, he says it was more like $30-40,000.
Prugo decided to step it up a notch after their first successful heist and begin targeting famous people.
According to Prugo, “it wasn’t so much that we were captivated with these celebrities as it was the stuff they had.”
Prugo claims he spotted Paris Hilton’s upcoming visit to Miami while perusing celebrity news websites and decided to take advantage of the situation.
Getting into Paris Hilton’s home “didn’t feel like much more of a step,” as Prugo puts it.

Prugo states that he and Lee made many trips to Hilton’s house over the course of three months. (Prugo claims to have discovered Hilton’s address on a website listing that of celebrities.) They drove around to her area and parked outside, then walked up to her house. When no one answered, they went ahead and walked in via the front door.
They went back a second time and found the front door closed, but a key had been left beneath the welcome mat. They probably plan on using the key in future burglaries, so they carried it with them.
“We frequented Paris’s home,” he recalls. In other words, “it was like having our own ATM at home.”
Prugo claims he never felt bad about the youngsters stealing thousands of dollars from him.
On-screen, Prugo explains, “I didn’t feel like there was a victim.” “This lady has a net worth in the millions. In fact, we didn’t believe she’d even notice.”
Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, and Audrina Patridge were just some of the stars that fell victim to Prugo and Lee’s robberies. Alexis Neiers renamed Alexis Haines, who also appears in the video to give her account of the events, was recruited to join their criminal organization.
Other band members that aren’t featured in the docuseries are Rachel Lee, Tess Taylor, Diana Tamayo, Courtney Ames, and Roy Lopez.
