The second season of Heartstopper is coming, which is great news because the show brings so much love to the small screen.
The Netflix hit is praised by critics and loved by audiences for its queer love story, which involves not only the main characters but also their families and friends (especially Nick and his mom!).
Here’s what we know so far about Heartstopper Season 2 release date:
When Will the Second Season of Heartstopper Come Out?
Heartstopper Season 2 hasn’t been given a release date yet, but it’s likely that there will be at least one more episode of this sweeter-than-sugar series based on how well it was received by critics and viewers. Joe Locke, who plays Charlie Spring, said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Because of Volumes 3 and 4, I think it’s pretty easy to think about a second season. Charlie gets an eating disorder and his mental health gets worse, which I think would be an interesting thing to look into, especially if the show keeps being mostly about teens.”

The first season of Heartstopper started filming in April 2021 and ended in June 2021. After 10 months, the show was put on Netflix. Season 2 was given the go-ahead in May 2022, so if everything goes according to plan, Charlie and Nick could be back in early 2023.
In September 2022, work on Season 2 began.
Heartstopper Season 2 Cast: Who Will Return?
Based on how the first season ended, all of your favorite characters will probably be back for more.
Of course, Charlie and Nick, played by Joe Locke and Kit Connor, will be back. William Gao and Yasmin Finney will be back as Tao and Elle. Isaac, Darcy, and Tara will be played by Tobie Donovan, Kizzy Edgell, and Corinna Brown, respectively.
Ben (Sebastian Croft), Imogen (Rhea Norwood), Harry (Cormac Hyde-Corrin), and Jenny Walser (Jenny Walser) are also likely to be back (Tori). Also likely to return are Chetna Pandya (Coach Singh), Fisayo Akinade (Mr. Ajayi), Joseph Balderrama (Julio Spring), and Alan Turkington (Mr. Lange).
Fans will also hope that Olivia Colman, who plays Nick’s mom Sarah, will also be back for another season.
Heartstopper Season 2 Cast: Who Are the New Characters?
Heartstopper season 2 will have four new characters, which are already known. Here are their names and who plays them:
- Leila Khan as Sahar Zahid – a Higgs school student
- Jack Barton as David Nelson – Nick’s older brother
- Bradley Riches as James McEwan – a Truham school student
- Nima Taleghani as Mr. Farouk – a Truham school teacher
Leila Khan got the part of Sahar after a nationwide call for actors. This will be her first professional acting job. Bradley Riches played an unnamed student in the first season, but he has since been given a bigger part.
Heartstopper Season 2 Plot
Heartstopper will probably pick up right where it left off when it comes back.
Nick has finally told his mom, the famous actress Olivia Colman, that Charlie is his boyfriend. When the rest of the school finds out, it will be interesting to see how they react.
Charlie’s almost-ex-Ben probably won’t be happy about this, since he seems to feel like he belongs to him, even though he won’t come out himself. Since Charlie has moved on, it seems to be getting worse.
As well as this, Charlie has said in the past that coming out has been hard on his mental health, and Alice Osman told Digital Spy that this is something we might see more of in the future.
She told us, “I definitely want to bring in themes of mental health because that’s a really important part of the books.”
“It was hard to write Heartstopper because I wanted to talk about some dark topics while keeping the tone upbeat and hopeful. That has been the hard part for me the whole time I’ve been writing it.

“But I like to think it could happen. I think I’ve done it with the books. I’ve been able to be very honest about mental health and explore it in a real way, but I haven’t written anything that’s too upsetting or too dark and scary to read or watch. So that is basically what I want to do with the show.”
Even Joe Locke said that it was hard to film the scene where Charlie tells his sister that he didn’t think he was good enough to have someone.
“I don’t know how our director, Euros [Lyn], did it. He just has a great way of getting us to say the right things without pushing us too far “he said.
“So we’d talk about what was going on. We would try to get into the scene. I think Euros tried to make the set as comfortable and relaxed as possible, especially for that scene, when I was trying to get into the right mindset.”
Charlie’s eventual “emotional outburst” became one of Locke’s favorite moments in this coming-of-age drama.
“It’s the turning moment where he realizes he needs to remedy the situation,” he told us. “He needs to do specific things in order to rectify the situation.”
