The Woman in the Window: When Will It Be Released on Netflix?

Netflix has had a lot of success bringing popular books to the big screen. The 2018 best-seller The Woman in the Window is the latest page-turner to be turned into a movie.

Joe Wright, who directed Atonement and The Darkest Hour, is in charge of the psychological thriller. He can count on a great cast to bring Finn’s characters to life, with Amy Adams in the lead role and Oscar winners Gary Oldman and Julianne Moore in supporting roles.

The movie has nothing to do with the classic Fritz Lang film noir of the same name. Instead, it’s about an agoraphobic psychologist who gets involved in a sinister plot while stuck in her New York City apartment. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about the Netflix release.

What is The Woman in the Window about?

The film is based on A. J. Finn’s book The Woman in the Window. It’s about a child psychologist named Anna Fox who has agoraphobia and can’t leave her New York City apartment. She spends her time spying on the family who just moved into the apartment across from hers, which seems to be the perfect family.

Anna is stuck in her apartment, but she meets different people, like her tenant, the musician David, and members of the family in the apartment across from hers, like 15-year-old Ethan and his mother, Jane.

Keeping with the theme of Rear Window, Anna’s life changes when she sees a brutal crime happen in the apartment. Slowly, things start to fall apart as she learns scary secrets and realizes that nothing is as it seems.

Who is Playing a Role in the Woman in the Window?

Amy Adams, who has been nominated for six Oscars, plays Anna Fox, and she is joined by a long list of famous actors.

Gary Oldman plays the banker Alistair Russell, who is the father of the family in the other apartment. Julianne Moore plays Jane, who Anna thinks is Alistair’s wife.

Fred Hechinger, who starred in Eighth Grade, portrays Ethan Russell, while Atlanta’s Brian Two performers from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as Anna’s tenant David and Anthony Mackie as Edward Fox, are featured in the cast. Henry plays Detective Little, the police officer who initially confronts Anna about the tragedy she has observed.

In addition to Tracy Letts (Lady Bird), who also penned the screenplay, the cast also includes Jeanine Serralles (Inside Llewyn Davis), Mariah Bozeman (Lost and Found), Liza Colón-Zayas (The Purge: Election Year), and Jennifer Jason Leigh (who plays a lady who claims to be the genuine Jane Russell).

When Will the Woman in the Window Be Released?

The movie came out everywhere on Netflix on Friday, May 14, 2021. This is a lot later than what had been planned. Originally, 20th Century Studios was going to put the movie in theatres in October 2019, but this was pushed back because the movie had to be re-edited after feedback from test screenings. Netflix bought the movie after the pandemic caused the May 2020 release date to be moved back again.
