Bird explained that their goal was simply to raise awareness about police brutality. She was insulted, but she didn’t let it get to her. Not many people run their lives as Megan does.
The fact that Rapinoe encouraged Bird to be open about her sexuality has already been revealed by Bird. The basketball player told Time in July,
“What Megan helped me understand was that, yes, what I was already doing was great, living authentically.” To put it another way: “But it was important to say it, because the more people that come out, the closer you get to the point where nobody has to come out.
