With the success of Jumanji: The Next Level, hopefully, Jumanji 4 (or Jumanji 3 if you only count the more recent films) will soon be in production.
The 2019 film made over $800 million worldwide, so naturally, everyone assumed that another sequel would soon follow. After all, the climactic events of The Next Level set the stage for a sequel that fans would love to see.
Though progress on the fourth Jumanji film has been slow, we are nevertheless still looking forward to its release. A second installment is coming, as producer Hiram Garcia promised in August 2021; we just have to wait.
It’s vital that we give the audience what they want while also developing the Jumanji mythos further. We are delving deeply into the project and working closely with the authors, director Jake Kasdan, and producing partner Matt Tolmach.

Details on the Jumanji 4 Delay: Actual Reason
Of course, the release of Jumanji 4 has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted filming and production schedules worldwide. The two-year gap between Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level is tough to replicate, and a December 2022 release date for Jumanji 4 now looks unrealistic.
Similarly, the presence of so many A-list actors in the Jumanji films will make it challenging to find time to develop the third game in the series. The Rock’s involvement with Red One and Black Adam has caused additional delays.

Because of his prominence as the film’s protagonist, filming of the sequel to Jumanji will have to wait until he is available. Still, Garcia insists that Jumanji 4 will be made, albeit at a later date than originally planned. The future of Jumanji 4 is uncertain at the moment because of how quickly circumstances can shift.
When Can We Expect to See Jumanji 4 in Theaters?
We don’t know when the next Jumanji film will be shot or when it will be released. Since the December release dates for Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and The Next Level (2019) were both successful at the box office, we expect a similar schedule for the third film.
Red One, a holiday film that will reunite director Jake Kasdan with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, will be released in theaters this December, and production on Jumanji 4 will begin afterward.
And that time actually works very wonderfully with all of the actors scheduled anyway,” Garcia added, “since it’s going to happen after Red One.” Just like [Dwayne] Johnson, Kevin Is Extremely Busy Juggling a Million Different Tasks. No actor has any downtime right now since they’re all so busy. Everything is falling into place perfectly, but we have a fantastic idea for the film we’re about to put into the studio and are, most likely, going to get a script done soon.

We have a huge idea for that film, and it will be ready to roll out sometime after Red One. Kevin Hart discussed the difficulties of filming a sequel in June 2021. There’s absolutely no chance of us leaving at this time. “It all comes down to time,” he explained. While we are all involved in other projects at the moment, I believe that after things have calmed down and our obligations have been fulfilled, we will go back to working on another one.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they don’t wait too long.
Do Jumanji Actors Plan to Reprise Their Roles in the Jumanji 4?
We’d be shocked if Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black weren’t returned as their Jumanji game avatars, given their importance to the success of the new movies.
Although their importance may have been diminished by the conclusion of The Next Level (more on that in a moment), it’s hard to imagine a sequel without them. It shouldn’t be too hard to persuade the original cast members to come back for another round. I’m assuming they’ll create one, but I have no idea how they intend to go about doing so. “It’s so much fun, I really hope they produce another one,” Gillan told Collider in July of 2021.
In addition to Danny DeVito, who may reprise his role as Alex Wolff’s (Wolff) grandfather Eddie, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain, and Morgan Turner will round out the cast of unfortunate athletes. Although Danny Glover has the option to return as Eddie’s pal Milo, he decides to remain in the game as Cyclone the flying horse at the end of The Next Level.

Colin Hanks, who played Alex Vreeke, is expected to return, as is Nick Jonas, who played Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough, and Awkwafina, who played Ming Fleetfoot. Could Bebe Neuwirth reprise her role as Nora Shepherd? At the end of The Next Level, she had a great cameo as the character she played in the original film, so we’d love to see her return for more installments.
What Does the Next Level’s Cliffhanger Mean for the Plot of Jumanji 4?
As for how The Next Level wraps up, it’s very similar to the conclusion of the original 1995 film. With the Jumanji game world colliding with our own.
This suggests that Spencer and the company will return to the Jumanji game world in an attempt to resolve the issue, opening the door for the eventual return of Dr. Smolder Bravestone and the other explorers.
Dr. Smoulder, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin Finbar, and Professor Shelly Oberon, the game’s avatars, could also be brought into the real world in a sequel, along with all of those stampeding animals.
Either way, this is just a guess for now, because Kasdan told Digital Spy in December 2019, when The Next Level came out, that he hadn’t thought about a sequel when he came up with that ending.
“Not much more than what you can see there,” he said when asked if he had a plan for the second movie. “You know, if this one is accepted in such a way, that we’re having that dialogue,”
Conclusion
Despite the fact that Karen Gillan has likely not been given any updates on the project other than “it’s going to happen,” the timeline is almost surely going to come down to Dwayne Johnson’s decision as to which sequel he wants to concentrate on next. With so many potential sequels in the works, it could be a while before a new Jumanji film is released.
