Gemma stated, “I leaped at the chance to work with Olivia because I believe she’s brilliant.”
“She has a policy: No jerks on set. She is both performing and directing in this performance, which I find astounding; I’m learning so a lot from witnessing her. Then there’s the entire creative staff!”
Gemma continued by praising her co-stars, including Florence and Harry, who plays a young married couple, and Chris Pine, who portrays a cult leader.
She continued, “Working with Florence [Pugh], Chris [Pine], and Harry [Styles] is a dream—such it’s an incredible cast. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding each character and the place and everything else, so I can’t say too much about the picture, but it’s been a beautiful world to dive into, and Olivia has been very encouraging.”

Kiki Layne and Gemma Chan Join ‘don’t Worry Darling’
KiKi Layne and Gemma Chan have joined the ensemble of Olivia Wilde’s upcoming New Line thriller Don’t Worry Darling, which she will direct. They join Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, and Chris Pine in the picture, with Wilde playing a supporting part. Layne replaces Dakota Johnson, who was unable to film the next Maggie Gyllenhaal picture due to schedule conflicts.
Although nothing is known about the plot of Don’t Worry Darling, it is set in a 1950s California desert utopian village. Katie Silberman adapted a spec script by Shane and Carey Van Dyke into a screenplay.
New Line won Don’t Worry Darling in a highly competitive situation including as many as 18 bidders. Richard Brener, Daria Cercek, and Celia Khong are supervising the project as studio executives.
The film is executive produced by Catherine Hardwicke, Shane Van Dyke, and Carey Van Dyke. Wilde and Silberman, together with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment, will produce.
