Olivia Wilde has told about what viewers may expect from her next movie Don’t Worry Darling, which stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles.

Don’t Worry Darling is Wilde’s second project as a director after the critically praised high school comedy Booksmart, which is scheduled for release in 2019.

Pugh plays housewife Alice in the 1950s who discovers her seemingly perfect marriage to Jack (Styles) isn’t what it seems in this psychological thriller.

According to a summary, the story is about a 1950s housewife who is unhappy and learns a startling reality while her devoted husband keeps a horrible secret from her.

Speaking to Vogue, Wilde claimed that Don’t Worry Darling was influenced by psychosexual thrillers like Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal and is comparable to “The Feminine Mystique on acid.”

Maturely, “[such movies are] incredibly sensual,” added Wilde. “Why isn’t there any excellent sex in movies anymore?” I kept asking.

Wilde said she intended to show audiences “how rarely they see female hunger, and precisely this form of feminine pleasure,” in a sex scene in the movie.

Also starring in Don’t Worry, Darling are Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, and KiKi Lane. The release date of the film is set for September 23, 2022.

It is Styles’ second significant feature role following Dunkirk (2017), directed by Christopher Nolan. Since then, he has made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Thanos’s brother Eros in Eternals’ post-credits scene.

Second Feature Film Directed by Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde began her career as an actress, appearing on television in the medical drama House and films such as Tron: Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens, and Drinking Buddies, but she has also proven to be a gifted director. Her 2019 directorial debut, the female-centric high school buddy comedy Booksmart, received widespread acclaim.

It will be interesting to watch how Wilde handles this new genre, as Don’t Worry Darling does not look to be the genuine, feel-good comedy that Booksmart was. Her portfolio includes genre experience, and she has demonstrated that she can be a great director.

When Wilde revealed Don’t Worry Darling as her next project in August 2019, 18 studios engaged in a bidding war, with New Line Cinema emerging victorious. The film is distributed by Warner Bros.

I Want to See How Olivia Wilde Handles the Story After Watching Booksmart

Olivia Wilde has been a familiar face on our television and movie screens for nearly two decades, and while we all enjoyed watching her on shows like The O.C. and House, and in films like Tron: Legacy, Rush, and Richard Jewell, I believe that her debut, full-length directorial effort, Booksmart, is one of her most significant professional achievements to date.

The 2019 R-rated comedy was adored by both critics and audiences, and it put Wilde on the map for her directing abilities. I, like many others, absolutely enjoyed Booksmart and was fascinated by Wilde’s decision to take such a different approach with her second picture. While Wilde has confessed that she is concerned about making the transition from teen humor to the dark historical drama Don’t Worry Darling, I am eager to see how she handles this story. Honestly? I already believe she did a good job.

It turns out that Don’t Worry Darling is just another movie that draws inspiration from classic works of cinema, whether it’s in terms of plot or technical aspects of filmmaking. Olivia Wilde Performed a “Victory Dance” When Harry Styles Joined the Cast of the Movie
