The Sanderson girls are returning after about 3 decades since “Hocus Pocus” enchanted fans.
Hocus Pocus 2, the forthcoming sequel to Disney’s famous Halloween classic, has received the first snapshot on Disney+. To whet fans’ appetites, the broadcaster released a behind-the-scenes shot of the Sanderson Sisters — performed once again by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy — as part of Disney+ Day.

Fans were ecstatic about the promotional picture and flocked to the comment thread of the same poster published by Bette Midler, saying they couldn’t wait to see the movie. Some said it was the ‘very finest,’ while others praised the group and showed excitement for Hocus Pocus 2.
Peak, Buckingham, and Escobedo will portray 3 friends who unintentionally unleash the Sanderson sisters, unleashing their fury on their hometown. “Hocus Pocus 2” will also include Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, and Taylor Paige Henderson.
The first Hocus Pocus film, helmed by Kenny Ortega, stars Midler, Parker, and Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, 3 witches who were mistakenly revived in Salem, Massachusetts. The movie was not a commercial success, but it developed a large cult following due to repeated telecasts on Disney Channel and Freeform in the preceding years. (This previous Halloween season, Freeform alone showed Hocus Pocus 14 times as a section of its yearly 31 Nights of Halloween programming; the film is also available on Disney+.)
A sequel seems to be in the works dating back to at least 2017 when Disney Channel contemplated a full-fledged recreation of the first. Then, in 2019, it was announced that a genuine follow-up would be in the works at Disney.
Hocus Pocus 2 is presently in the works. The story will take up nearly 30 years following the happenings of the first film. Whitney Peak from Gossip Girl, Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso, Tony Hale from The Mysterious Benedict Society, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Sam Richardson, Juju Brenor, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Henderson, and Nina Kitchen are among the new cast members.
The sequel will be helmed by Anne Fletcher, who also directed the films, Step Up, 27 Dresses, The Proposal, and The Guilt Trip which Jen D’Angelo will write. As per Deadline, the movie is now being shot in Rhode Island and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. Hocus Pocus 2 will be available on Disney+ in the fall of 2022.
The official summary is as follows:
It’s been 29 years since anyone burned the Black Flame Candle, resurrecting the 17th-century girls who’d been killed for witchcraft, and they’re out for vengeance. Now it’s up to 3 high schoolers to find out is how to prevent the voracious witches from heaping new chaos and death on Salem before the clock strikes midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.
The film was supposed to start production last summer in Salem, Massachusetts, the movie’s real-life setting. As per cinematographer Elliot Davis, following a replacement in directors, the site managers decided to shoot in Rhode Island rather. Shooting has commenced around in the greater Providence region, notably on the East Side at La Salle Academy, the Moses Brown School, Benevolent Street, and Cooke Street. Sets were also constructed at Chase Farms in Lincoln and Newport.
