GPD- GamePad Design is a technology company based in Shenzhen, China, and is quite famous for its gaming-oriented handheld consoles which run Android on ARM architecture. They are also known for their handheld computer equipped with a keyboard and gaming control and mini laptops.
Here we are going to talk about the GPD-XP which is a modular handheld device designed and manufactured by GamePad Design.
This company has certain works that are developed far beyond time like their handheld video game consoles, handheld laptops which they developed during October 2015. Gaming devices were not as profitable at that time as they are now but GPD still went ahead to design handheld mobile consoles.
GPD is all set to launch its newly developed GPD- XP which was inspired by the Nintendo Switch. It is a video game console developed by Nintendo and released worldwide on March 3, 2017. The design and look of both devices are quite similar to each other.
There have been a lot of gaming consoles available in the market for decades but Switch was the most profitable of all due to its amazing features and interchangeable modes. Switch basically comes with a Joy-con controller, has standard buttons and directional analog sticks for user input, motion sensing, and tactile feedback, and can attach to both sides of the console to support handheld-style play. They can also connect to grip accessories which are seen in traditional gaming consoles and give you the vibe of a gamepad or be used individually in the hand supporting local multiplayer modes. These modes have attracted a lot of gamers towards the Switch model and GPD too was inspired by the same.
GPD explicitly stated that they would be taking a different path to reach their desired goal which simply means they are inspired by the piece but would bever copy it.
The device GPD-XP is quite similar to a smartphone as it has certain features of a smartphone. It comes with a big screen which is bigger than the average screen size of a phone which is 6.5 inches. The GPD has a 6.81-inch screen and comes with the MediaTek Helio G95 processor which is often compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon SD 855. It will come with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage which is quite less compared to other gaming phones which offer you 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage but the battery which is 7000 mAh is quite impressive. The device will support the 4G band only.
This phone will not support calls and SMS as it is designed for gaming purposes only.
What actually is different in this console from the Switch one is its modes. On its left side, we can see an analog stick also called a thumbstick, and a Direction pad for navigation, and 3 buttons. On the right side of the device, we can find magnetic connectivity which can make it a more traditional gamepad or can be used to play MOBA games. It also possesses touchscreen ability which is for games that do not work with controllers.
The exact launch date has not been revealed officially by GDP.
