Facebook Partners With Ray Ban To Develop Its AR Powered Sunglasses, Plans On Creating A Virtual Metaverse

Facebook again wants to do something new and has decided to launch its first-ever AR sunglasses. Facebook has recently partnered with Ray-Ban, a leading Italian/American brand of luxury sunglasses and eyeglasses. 

Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced this news saying that they are working in a collaboration with Ray-Bans owner Essilor Luxottica. Facebook recently has earned a lot mostly by Facebook ads that help creators and business owners run on their platforms. But now Facebook aspires to enter the hardware market by launching its first-ever AR sunglasses.

Ray-Ban has been famous for its iconic glasses for many years. Currently one of the most iconic sunglasses models in the world, Ray-Ban Aviator Classic sunglasses were originally designed for U.S. aviators in 1937. 

This model is a timeless classic with its incredible gold frame with 100% UV protection.

Facebook too will be using these iconic Ray-Ban Aviator Classic sunglasses for its AR sunglasses the only difference would be that the original sunglasses would not have an embedded AR system but the new ones would have AR features integrated into them.

This news was announced by Mark Zukerberg during the Q2 2021 which means between July and September, during an earnings call between the company and the media. This would be the first attempt made by Facebook to get into the hardware industry, especially sunglasses.

Developing a sunglass with AR features is an interesting concept that can boom in the future just like iPads and earbuds are popular and are in demand nowadays. The AR sunglasses can act as a boost to your imagination and expand your experience of the real world by integrating graphics and data from the Internet.

In this earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the arrival of these new AR sunglasses soon he even said that the company and even Ray Ban’s owner Essilor Luxottica are excited for the launch as it will be their first AR sunglasses. He even talked about the AR features of the glasses and how they would come in Ray-Bans iconic frame and would help users do some pretty awesome things. 

Zuckerberg is quite excited about bringing these AR sunglasses and wants the users to access them as soon as possible. He wishes on creating more such sunglasses to change an individual’s perception.

Some technical information about these glasses was not revealed by the company but we can expect the information or data soon from the company. Even a specific date hasn’t been given for the launch of these sunglasses it does seem that whatever announcement was made was completely based on a plan and the company has yet not worked on the model.

One more feature Zuckerberg wants to integrate into these sunglasses is having a virtual metaverse which is a collective virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space, including the sum of all virtual worlds, augmented reality, and the Internet. This feature can enable the users to teleport themselves in the virtual reality worlds using various advancements like AR and VR technologies.

 Let’s talk about certain words used in the article like AR and VR. AR stands for Augmented Reality whereas VR stands for Virtual Reality. AR uses a real-world setting while VR is completely virtual. VR requires a headset device, but AR can be accessed with a smartphone. AR enhances both the virtual and real-world while VR only enhances a fictional reality.

Facebook is working on the project and we can soon see these sunglasses in the market.
