Pfizer on Wednesday announced the benefits of taking a third vaccine dose after taking the two primary doses. The company confirmed that this third dose will boost immunity and also protect them from the third Delta variant of the coronavirus.
Pfizer is an American multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology corporation and develops and produces medicines and vaccines for immunology, oncology, cardiology, endocrinology, and neurology.
Pfizer suggested taking the Pfizer/ BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer for greater effectiveness. Pfizer, after conducting their study, discovered that the antibodies produced by the third vaccine for targeting against the Delta variant are five times more than the original antibodies that the two primary vaccines can produce. This can happen in individuals between the age group of 18- 55 years old.
For those older than 55 years and fall in the age bracket of 65 to 85 years if they take the second dose of the vaccine the antibodies count in their body grows by 11-fold.
Pfizer always tests its products and vaccines before they introduce them to the world. In the same way, they did test the third dose of vaccine on 23 persons. The data for the same is still not available for public knowledge as these tests have not been peer-approved and reviewed and thus not published.
It is quite questionable whether the increase in the number of antibodies in a person’s body does help in fighting against the Delta variant. It is still unclear whether they help in the protection or not.
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which is a national public health agency and federal agency of the United States under the Department of Health and Human Services did say that the two primary doses of the vaccine have enough capacity to protect the individual from all the common variants. The two doses can boost immunity and protect the body of people belonging to any age bracket.
The earning call between Pfizer’s, Dr. Mikael Dolsten, and the media on Wednesday revealed that Dolsten finds the news of the third vaccine very encouraging. Dr. Mikael Dolsten is the one who leads the worldwide research, development- medical at Pfizer. He is the President at Pfizer and is a Swedish-American physician-scientist.
Dr. Mikael Dolsten even remarked that receiving the third vaccine dose after six months of the second dose will boost nullifying the antibodies count in your body.
After six or more months often the antibodies count decreases in our body so the third vaccine will help boost this number. The study conducted about the third vaccine did reveal that the antibody count was 100 times more in those participants’ post-third vaccine than it was a pre-third vaccine. This was the reason was Dr. Mikael Dolsten said that the news of the third vaccine is quite encouraging as the Delta variant is spreading in many countries and we need to control it and the only way to do it is by vaccinating and wearing masks.
It was also revealed after the experiment that the antibody levels in the body after the third vaccine were quite higher for the original Coronavirus variant and the Beta variant also known as lineage B.1.351, is a variant of SARS-CoV-2, which first appeared in South Africa.
The efficiency of the vaccine was 91% in its initial six months after which it started to wane.
