Apple Rolls Out Support For U1 Chip Ultrawide Band Features For More Countries

Well, we have all known how Apple with its release of new iPhone’s always adds a new feature or something which will completely leave all of its users and fans all over the world speechless. Before the release of iPhone 11, we saw that they have added a new chip called the U1 chip which provides Ultra-Wideband (UWB) connectivity with the addition of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, now this could offer a myriad of new services for enterprises and consumers and increase the sales of the company itself and it can prosper at the most. So what does this UWB technology offer? Well, it offers a feature that has the ability for your phone to recognize its surroundings and the objects in it known as ‘spatial awareness.

I am sure that there still must be a lot of questions in your mind regarding this UWB technology but don’t worry my dear readers because I am sure the next section will definitely remove all those doubts at least that is what I intend to do. So the UWB is a short-range, wireless communication protocol that is just like Bluetooth which uses radio waves. But the only difference between the two is that UWB operates at a very high frequency and it also uses a wide spectrum of several GHz. UWB was first used in military radars and covert communications and was used briefly as a form of medical imaging, such as remote heart monitoring systems. But now it is used for location discovery and device ranging. In addition to that UWB is natively more precise, uses less power, and holds the promise of a lower price point. All the world’s largest smartphone makers like Samsung, Apple, and Huawei are involved in UWB projects including chip and antenna production however Apple is the first to actually deploy it in a phone.

Apple’s U1 chip, which was first introduced with iPhone 11 in 2019, uses Ultra-Wideband technology to enhance device localization so that it can detect precisely where another device is located and the distance between the two of the devices. Not only that but Apple has been using the U1 chip to enable an enhanced version of AirDrop, AirTag tracking, and soon an option to unlock the car without even having to hold the iPhone or Apple Watch near the door lock. Now, these are some really huge leaps taken by the company to promote the usage of their products and increase their market sales.

But the only problem was that the availability of the Ultra-Wideband was not available to everyone around the globe and this is because of the frequencies it uses. But then this week Apple announced that they have expanded the list of the countries where the U1 chip is available. So below is a list of countries where the U1 chip is still unavailable.

  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Belarus
  • Indonesia
  • Kazakhstan
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Nepal
  • Russia
  • Tajikistan
  • Turkmenistan
  • Ukraine
  • Uzbekistan

So if your country is no longer on the list then you are at luck as you get to experience the U1 chip features and for those who are in these countries I am sorry for this sad news but I hope this feature gets unlocked in your country soon.
