No Game No Life is one anime that we all have eagerly waiting for. It is based on a Japanese light novel series by the famous Yuu Kamiya. So this series is all about a group of human gamers who compete with the aim of beating the god of games at a series of board games in order to gain the god’s throne.
It was firstly published under the MF Bunko J imprint with ten novels which were released between April 25, 2012, and January 25, 2018. And with the growing popularity lead the author to adapt the novels into a manga series for Monthly Comic Alive in 2013. Later that year, the anime adaptation of No Game No Life was also announced by Madhouse. It first premiered between April and July 2014. After which an anime film adaptation of the sixth volume, No Game, No Life Zero, premiered on July 15, 2017, and a spinoff manga, No Game No Life, Please!, focusing on the character Izuna, premiered from May 27, 2015, to November 27, 2017. But after then there was no news of No Game No Life, until now.
Even though there have been no such announcements as such regarding season 2 of No Game No Life mostly because of the controversy with the series’ original author, Yuu Kamiya, in 2014 where it was stated that ‘Kamiya had allegedly plagiarized the works of several other artists. Kamiya even went so far as to apologize to the artists and reimburse them for the art he copied.’ according to The Storify News-Times. So since then no matter how popular the series is Madhouse has been hesitant to let go of the new season. Sad news for all the fans and readers but there is still a tiny ray of hope as neither Yuu Kamiya nor Madhouse has officially canceled production of the popular show. So keep your fingers crossed dear readers and hope that we get to see this brand new season of No Game No Life otherwise we will never see Sora and Shiro battle the other races of Disboard or even get to know if they succeeded in challenging and defeating the God of games Teto.
Now let us have a quick recap of what had happened before, the series begins by showing the audience about Sora and his younger stepsister Shiro, two hikikomori who made up their identity as an undefeated group of gamers. So one day, they are challenged by the god of games to chess and we see that they are victorious in the game of chess against the god of games. As a result, the god summons them to Disboard, which is a world filled with games and every single important decision is made through games, including national borders and even people’s lives. Sora and Shiro intend on maintaining their reputation as the undefeated gamers since they plan to conquer the sixteen ruling species and to take over and become the god of games.
Now at the end of Season 1, we saw Shiro and Sora had just successfully defeated the Eastern Federation, creating a pact between them and the Elkian Empire. Shortly after, the group summons the great duo with the intent of challenging them to a game. But the ending, now that was bizarre as it didn’t exactly end according to how it had ended in the light novel. So due to this deviation from the novel it is enough to completely bar Season 2 from getting back on track according to the novel. Thus keeping this in mind, No Game No Life Season 2 would continue following Sora and Shiro as they move on to conquer the country of the Dhampir and sirens with bizarre twists and turns.
Let’s just hope that we will be fortunate and lucky enough to see the second season of No Life No Game otherwise, it will be very disheartening for all of us and will even keep us curious as without the new season releasing we might never get to know if Sora and Shiro claim the throne.
