Master of None may sound very ominous but trust me it is one of those tv shows which can make you laugh till your stomach hurts. It is a comedy-drama tv series which had first premiered on Netflix on 6th November 2015. It is created by Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang. But what is the specialty of this tv series because I am sure no one is really that attracted by the name itself? According to the reports from the viewers who already watched the show said that they were attracted to this series due to its humor, unique take on culture and its norms, outstanding performances of the actors, and the influence it has on an individual.
Coming to the plot the first two seasons had focused on this struggling actor named Dev who is on a mission to unmask his true identity and for that, there were a lot of hurdles that he had to cross through. The latest season of Master of none which is now renamed Moments in Love hit Netflix on the 23rd May 2021. Consisting of 5 episodes which will entirely focus on Lena Waithe’s Denise and the ups and downs of her marriage with Alicia and even their struggles with fertility, and personal growth of both the characters together and apart.
This new season returned to Netflix after a long four-year break, because Ansari was not very confident about the fact that Master of None would ever go beyond two seasons. As he stated “I don’t know if we’re going to do a Season 3. I wouldn’t be surprised if I needed a looonng break before I could come back to it,” in a 2017 Vulture profile. He continued by saying that “I’ve got to become a different guy before I write the third season, is my personal thought. I’ve got to get married or have a kid or something.”. The latest season also draws its storyline from real-life and this time it is one of Ansari’s friends, who was a sperm donor to a lesbian couple.
Although it remains unclear whether or not there will be Season 4 as the shift of focus is now on Denise and it is likely to be a deliberate action that was meant to put some distance between the project and Ansari, who was accused of sexual misconduct in 2018. Even though Netflix “certainly would be happy to make another season of Master of None,” Lena Waithe aka Denise and Alan Yang said that they do not have anything to share about Season 4 right now. So readers it feels awful to bring in the sad news that it may take years to bring in a brand new season of Master of None or it may never arrive… so don’t keep your hopes up high.
To conclude I would like to conclude on a happy note with some predictions about what could season 4’s plot be if there is ever an announcement regarding that. So we saw how the first two seasons focus on a struggling actor Dev and how he tries to get his life back on track. While the third season focuses on his childhood best friend Denise and throws light on her marriage and struggles, it is predicted that the fourth season may give the spotlight to Alan Yang’s writing, who is impersonated as Brian on the show and played by Kelvin Yu. This is because Alan Yang once told the Hollywood Reporter in 2017 that “I’d rather we not end here” and goes on by saying that “I’d rather make one at some point in my life. I don’t know when that is, years from now or whatever. Ideally, I’d like to make more because I love the team of people and the whole process.”
