Horizon Zero Dawn is now free for PS4 and PS5 owners as a part of Sony’s play at home initiative

Sony is giving a treat to PS4 and PS5 owners by making Sony and Guerrilla Game’s Horizon Zero Dawn available for free. Sony has made this announcement on its PlayStation blog as part of its ‘Play at home’ initiative. This initiative emphasized raising awareness among PlayStation users and encouraging them to stay at home during the pandemic. What better can a company offer than providing classic games for free. As per their Play at home policy, the company will be giving away free games until June.

PlayStation players of both consoles can take their free digital copy ‘Zero Dawn’ by May 14th at 8 PM PT / 11 PM ET.

Notably, the free copy you’ll be receiving is a complete edition. And a complete edition comprises of surprises more than just the game. In this free package, PlayStation owners will be getting the Frozen Wilds expansion and a digital artbook.

Traditionally, PS Plus free games like this require an active subscription to Sony’s service. But, the company is offering this for free, without any deals or future promises.

Horizon Zero Dawn

The action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn was launched in 2017. It was developed by Guerilla Games and the publishing partner was Sony. As far as the plot is concerned, you play the protagonist Aloy. A young hunter in a world filled with machines sets out on a journey to uncover the stories of her past.

You’ll be combating different creatures on this adventure with some classic weapons. There also something called a ‘skill tree’ in the game and it will provide you with different abilities and benefits. In this cool adventure, you’ll get to explore different corners of the virtual words while taking interesting quests.

Horizon Zero Dawn was released for PlayStation 4 in 2017. Later in 2020, it was launched for Microsoft Windows.

Sony’s play at home initiative

Sony started this concept in April 2020, soon after the onset of the pandemic. Recently, on March 17, 2021, an update was posted listing 10 more freely available games.

Here Sony is giving out a strong message with regards to Corporate social responsibility. Organizations have dealt with the pandemic in their own unique way. Similar is the case with Sony, they’ve utilized their USP which is ‘gaming’, and made it available for free under a segment ‘Play at Home’. Sony has a huge youth-based user base. And the way they’ve propagated an important message during the pandemic is commendable.
