The PS1 Demo Disc is out for 2021. It was made available for download on 25th March. This time 25 more lo-fi spooky demos are included which will take you back to the 90s.
The “Demo Disc” is not exactly a physical disc. As per the creators, it is difficult for them due to a lack of time and resources to organize the physical production of this disc.
These games are created and programmed on modern devices, just to recreate the feel and aesthetic of the late 90s gaming experience.
According to the response received, these games have been successful in creating their own place and possess a strong player base.
THESE GAMES BRINGS A MIX OF HORROR, ADVENTURE, SCI-FI, TWITS TO THE TABLE
One of the most interesting things about these games and it can be a reason for their popularity is the mix of emotions it gives to the players.
Like in this series, there is a game, An Outcry by Quinn K, the plot of which is set in an apartment building in Vienna, Australia. Upon that building, a force descends that finds it difficult to understand the residents of the building.
Chasing Static, by Headware Games, adds to the list. According, to the creators this game is inspired by 80s sci-fi horror and some aspects of cinema. It gives a full-on experience of horror and adventure.
Ghastly Goodies, by Cyreides, is set on Halloween. You will play as Pete or Sarah, and try to avoid the tricks as you gather some treats!
Risu, by Ryan Trawick, after the death of her mother, Risu Ishikawa goes to live with her estranged father, but her new home holds a dark presence.
Players will also get a taste of psychological horror with The Lunar Effect, where every action is questioned, every clue is vital, and every second is precious.
DOES HAUNTED PS1 DEMO DISC HAS A FUTURE?
Well, taking into consideration the popularity of this product and the number of downloads it gets. It is quite clear that this series has a place of its own in the gaming market.
Currently, the demo disc is free downloadable for Windows only which becomes problematic for some. But it is quite reasonable, as per the creators, supporting other operating systems would likely double or triple the work it took to organize the disc.
Haunted PS1 creators are experimenting. According to them, the games released might not be necessarily haunted. Instead, the series will encapsulate a wide range of genres.
The creators say, “HPS1 is a community where we try to accept all low-fi and retro art directions,” they say. “As such not every game has to be 3D or have the particular visual quirks of any specific hardware. In a similar way, we do not require the games to have a strict horror theme, instead, they can be atmospheric, have a slightly unnerving twist, or even just feel so of the era that we can’t resist loving them and wanting them in the collection.”
So far, things have gone well. The games have received good reviews as well. Many players have said that it has been a complete experience, and it’s been a wild trip. This segment is something different from the mainstream and the future looks bright in the gaming world.
