Historical dramas have been a fan favourite for a long time. With no visible declination in the number of such shows released every year, the competition is fierce. The Last Kingdom is a series which, however, remains perpetual in the genre. The Last Kingdom is a British telly series focusing on the genus of history and fiction. It centres around The Saxon Stories, a series of novels by Bernard Cornwell. The eight episodes of the first series aired on BBC America on 10 October 2015. It premiered in the UK on 22 October 2015 in BBC Two. The second series of eight episodes broadcasted in March 2017, on BBC Two. The third series, produced by Carnival Films, streamed from 19 November 2018 exclusively on Netflix. Netflix renewed the series for two new seasons after that. The fifth series continued on 7 July 2020.

Netflix renewed the series for a season 4 on 26 December 2018. It was produced yet again by Carnival Films. The fourth instalment to the series released on 26 April 2020. The fourth season of the series had a total of ten episodes.
Cast: The Last Kingdom Season 4
The cast for season 4 included Alexander Dreyman as Uhtred and Emily Cox as Brida. The other characters comprised Father Pyrlig played by Cavan Clerkin, and Father Beocca starred by Ian Hart and Eliza Butterworth in the role of Aelswith. Additionally, we could see Eva Birthistle as Hild and Mark Rowley as Finan, to name a few.
Plot: The Last Kingdom Season 4
Season 4 begins with Uhtred receiving news of Scottish attacks that are weakening Bebbanburg’s defences. As such, Uhtred and his men proceed to Bebbanburg to tackle the situation. The battle does not advance as planned, and Uhtred suffers some severe losses. Nevertheless, he captures valued captives while his retreat to the south. Later into the story, Aethelflaed and Uhtred decide to ally themselves with the Welsh. Uhtred, hesitantly, arranges to take command over Mercia. Conversely, he concocts an alternate plan as well. Brida, on the other hand, attacks the Welsh in the association of the Danes.
Storyline: The Last Kingdom Series
Set during the times of Vikings, The Last Kingdom shows the period when England divided into seven kingdoms. Season 4 primarily features England during the years of about 901–910. After several attacks and plunders, the only empire left was that of Wessex. The protagonist introduced is Uhtred of Bebbanburg.
The story highlights Uthred’s journey through losing his family and being taken captive to meeting Brida and having an adoptive family. It also shows his desire for revenge against the murderers of both his biological and adoptive parents and siblings. Ultimately, Uthred must choose between two- the kingdom of his ancestors, Saxon, or that of the people who have raised him, the Vikings. Moreover, the protagonist must recover his ancestral birthright through all these hardships.
