The crowd-pleasing show, The Society, was terminated rather suddenly. Many, at that time, did not have any explanation for this abrupt decision. Nonetheless, what people are not aware of are the reasons for the cancellation, and if they may be in for a sequel.
‘The Society‘ is a mystery, teen dystopian drama and web television series, that premiered on the streaming giant, Netflix. Created by Christopher Keyser, season 1 of the show became a fan favourite immediately after its release. As such, fans were and still are eager for a second instalment to the series.
Release Date: The Society Season 2
The first season of the show surfaced on Netflix on May 10, 2019. It ended with just ten episodes. After its initial premiere, the creators had planned to work on the next part as early as April 2020. They initially declared the show to be a two-part series. With a little delay in the filming, the renewable of season 2 was premeditated to start in autumn 2020. Contrary to expectations, on August 21, 2020, Netflix officially cancelled the second season. It also announced the cessation of any further continuations.
Cast: The Society Season 2
If the series renews, we expect the original cast to return for a second season. The main cast includes Kathryn Newton as Allie Pressman, Gideon Adlon as Becca Gelb and Sean Berdy as Sam Elliot. Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Helena and Olivia DeJonge playing Elle Tomkins present other characters.
Reason for Cancellation: The Society Season 2
The primary reason for stopping production of season 2 was the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. There were plans to delay the shooting to late August or early September of 2020. Such decisions, unfortunately, never came to fruition. Ambiguity around production dates and the availabilities of a large cast proved to be the auxiliary basis for the revocation. Fans are still optimistic about the probability of a sequel since season 1 concluded with an unexpected cliffhanger.
Storyline: The Society Season 1
A sudden incident caused the disappearance of most residents of a town. Despite that, a group of teenagers must now learn to fend for themselves. The students, of a local high school, return from an annulled field trip to find themselves in this unbelievable situation. Also, the growth of a dense forest surrounding the town cut them off from the neighbouring settlements.
They must, therefore, lead their community to sustain their lives efficiently without relying on others. They neither have any help from adults nor ways to contact the outside world. In this crisis, the students must still devise rules to survive with limited resources. Thus, the story revolves on the challenges faced by those teenagers in this weird situation.
