While it hasn’t been announced, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is likely to reunite the original film’s successful creative crew, including director Jeff Fowler and screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller.
So, what does Sonic the Hedgehog 2 do to set up the third game? What can we expect from it? Everything you need to know is listed here.
When Can We Anticipate Is There Going to Be a Sonic 3?
If there are no setbacks, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will launch in theaters on December 20, 2024. It’s a departure from the two films that came out earlier this year (February 2020 and April 2022, respectively). The financial success of those films proves that releasing them around Christmas is a smart move.

There’s been no word on when the third installment will enter production. But we figure it won’t be much later than 2023 at the earliest.
There’s been no word on when the Knuckles TV series spin-off will premiere. Despite the fact that we know when the third movie will be out.
Who Will Reprise Their Roles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3?
Even while we don’t know for sure who will be returning for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, we may still speculate. Naturally, Ben Schwartz will reprise his role as Sonic, and we can expect to see Colleen O’Shaughnessey return in the role of Tails and Idris Elba return in the role of Knuckles.
Jim Carrey announced his retirement from acting after the release of Sonic 2, capping off a long and successful career. He’s “pretty serious” about taking a vacation from the industry, so he might not return as Robotnik in the third installment, at least.
Toby Ascher and Neal H. Moritz, the game’s creators, have indicated they “wouldn’t even try” to hire a new actor for the part of Sonic. “As long as Jim Carrey would like to be around, he’ll always have a place in these movies and TV shows and he’ll always be a member of the Sonic family,” Ascher said.
“What Jim does with Robotnik is wonderful, and we all adore him for it. As long as he wants to remain with us, we will love him.”
Some Other Casting Members
Other human characters include Sonic’s “parents,” Tom and Maddie Wachowski (James Marsden and Tika Sumpter), Agent Stone (Lee Majdoub), and Green Hills Deputy Sheriff Wade Whipple (Adam Pally). Natasha Rothwell as Maddie’s older sister Rachel and Shemar Moore as her fiancé Randall could return, as could Tom Butler as Commander Walters, given that GUN could play a bigger role in the third film with Shadow’s entrance.
Although Shadow’s appearance was teased in the end credits of the third film, the voice actor(s) who will be voicing Shadow remains unknown. Shadow is voiced by Kirk Thornton on the show, but we anticipate a casting change when the character makes its big-picture debut. As Shadow’s co-writer Pat Casey explained, Shadow is “motivated by hatred and revenge,” thus Sonic’s attempts to befriend him won’t go as smoothly as they did with Knuckles.
“In the face of Shadow, Sonic thinks, “Well, I’ll just teach him about the power of friendship, as with Knuckles!” Sonic had never dealt with someone as mentally disturbed as Shadow. Unfortunately, Shadow is immune to such tactics “The Green Hill Zone podcast, he said. YouTube is the source for this content. What is Behind Sonic the Hedgehog 3? Its Plot
There is currently no information available on the plot of the third film, however, it will most likely continue directly from the tease in the closing credits. In this flashback to the conclusion, GUN once again searches the same area where he last saw Robotnik but comes up empty-handed. However, Agent Stone (Lee Majdoub) is spotted skulking around, suggesting that he assisted his boss in making a break for freedom.
And then we saw Shadow the Hedgehog for the first time, who will no doubt return to cause Sonic trouble in the sequel. Fowler expressed his enthusiasm to ComicBook.com but declined to elaborate. “The fact that it’s still early prevents me from going into too much depth. Yes, I will reveal that we are dropping hints about a character over which I am extremely excited. Since I’m a fan, it has a special meaning for me “In his observation, he made the following.
O’Shaughnessey told Digital Spy that she hoped Tails would return: “I hope we get to see more and more of him and see where his devices can take people.”
Schwartz isn’t spilling the beans on the movie’s plot, but he did give The Playlist a taste of what to look forward to: “We went all out for [the sequel], and we want to do the same for [the third installment]. It’s going to be so exciting; I can hardly wait.”

As of September 2022, there is no information available because production on Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has not yet begun.
Even though the sequel was scheduled for release in April 2022, the first trailer was revealed in December 2021, so we have a bit to wait. On December 20, 2024, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will hit theaters.
Internationally, How Much Money Did Sonic 2 Make?
The Sonic film franchise has earned astronomical sums at the box office.
Paramount’s decision to make a third Sonic film follows the success of the second, which grossed over $400 million worldwide. The cinema industry was recuperating from a global shakeup when Sonic 2 was released on April 8, 2022, and it was one of the most successful movies of the year. In fact, Sonic 2 was more successful than its predecessor.
With the success of the previous Sonic games, Paramount can expect the same from Sonic 3. Even though the first Sonic held the record for the best opening weekend for a video game adaptation, Sonic 2 has surpassed it.
